Ph.D. RESEARCH PROJECT:
Research Topic: “Carbon sequestration under long term application of manures and fertilizers to sorghum- wheat cropping sequence in Vertisol”.
Following points studied:
- Assessed the effect of long term application of NPK fertilizers and organic manures to sorghum-wheat sequence in Vertisol on carbon fractions and stock.
- Studied the effect of long term application of NPK fertilizers and organic manures to sorghum-wheat sequence on the soil physical, chemical and biological properties i.e. total microbial population, N fixing microbes (Azotobactor and Azospirillum spp.), P solubilizing microbes (Aspergillus, Trichoderma, Pseudomonas and Bacillus spp. ) and enzymatic activities of soil.
- Studied the correlation between carbon fractions and soil properties.
- Estimated the Carbon management index, Carbon pool index, Carbon lability index, Carbon sequestration rate per year, Sustainable yield index and soil quality index of 32 years of experimentation.
- Characterization of extracted Humic and Fulvic acid from soil.
- Carbon sequestration by agricultural land has generated international interest because of its potential impact and benefits for both agriculture and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Sorghum and wheat are the premier food grain crops of the peninsular central India and Maharashtra. In the context of soil fertility management and carbon sequestration, long term application fertilizers and manures experiments are valuable assets for determining changes in nutrient dynamics and balances, predicting soil carrying capacity, assessing soil quality, yield sustainability and accumulation of organic carbon and biological properties. The hypothesis of the investigation is that the long- term application of balanced and imbalanced fertilization with or without manures and crop residue recycling under intensive cropping system may influenced and positive to the soil chemical, physical and biological properties and ultimately the productivity and also helps to reduce the cost of cultivation and economically feasible to ordinary farmers.
M. Sc. RESEARCH PROJECT:
Research Topic: “GPS-GIS based soil fertility maps of Sakri tehsil of Dhule district (MS)”.
Objectives:
- To assess the available nutrients status of Sakri Tehsil for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B and Mo by using Global Positioning System.
- To develop soil fertility maps of Sakri- Tehsil base nutrient status.
